40th Year Anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation Japanese Traditional Musical Instruments Concert by WASABINovember 4, 2013 On 30 October 2013, WASABI, a well-known group playing the Japanese traditional musical instruments, held a concert at the Usmar Ismail Hall, Jakarta. The members of WASABI are Mr. Yoshida Ryoichiro (Tsugaru Shamisen Player), Motonaga Hirommu (Shakuhachi Player), Biho Naosaburo (Taiko Drum Player) and Ichikawa Shin (Koto Player). The concert aimed at introducing how cool and stylish Japanese traditional culture can be through the medium of music that makes exclusive use of Japanese traditional instruments. In the concert, fifteen pieces were performed. Around 160 participants including people from ASEAN Member States, Indonesian universities and media enjoyed the performance of traditional Japanese musical instruments. WASABI has been sent to have concerts and workshops in the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia (Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan) to introduce Japanese culture and exchange with people of these countries as one of the commemorative events for the 40th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation.
