“Cybersecurity Seminar for Policy Makers”

    On 6th September 2013, the joint seminar entitled “Cybersecurity Seminar for Policy Makers” was co-hosted by ASEAN Secretariat and the Mission of Japan, in ASEAN Hall, ASEAN secretariat. There were around 90 participants from ASEAN Secretariat , diplomats from ASEAN Member States (AMS), ,and government, private, academic and media sector in Indonesia. This seminar was held for the raising public awareness of Cybersecurity policy and deepening understanding of ASEAN Japan collaboration in its area with the timing of “ASEAN Japan Ministerial meeting on Cybersecurity Cooperation”, which will be held ion 12th and 13th of this September in Tokyo.


    The seminar started with the opening remarks by Dr. AKP Mochtan, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN and H.E. Mr. Kimihiro Ishikane, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, followed by three presentations. Professor Yoichi Shinoda, the Special Adviser of National Information Security Center of Japan, spoke about critical viewpoints of Cybersecurity policy as well as joint projects on Cybersecurity between ASEAN and Japan etc. Mr. Koichiro Komiyama, Manager in Global Coordination Division in JPCERT/CC, explained presented necessity of cooperation between public and private, international collaboration and the challenges of these collaboration. Ms.Takako Ito Minister-Counselor of the Mission, presented Japan’s effort in promoting regional cooperation against cybercrimes. In the seminar, it is acknowledged that cooperation in Cybersecurity is essential for ASEAN member states because the safe, open and resilient cyberspace is the basis of their connectivity and prosperity. Importance of raising public awareness in AMS, which is critical for improving the level of Cybersecurity and its means were also discussed. This Seminar was held as one of the commemorative events for the 40th year anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation.
