Participation in the ASEAN Connectivity Workshop held in Bangkok, ThailandAugust 5, 2013
The ASEAN Connectivity Workshop hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand was held on 19 July, 2013 in Bangkok. Representing the Government of Japan, H.E. Mr. Kimihiro ISHIKANE, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, participated in the workshop. From the Government of Thailand, H.E. Mr. Pradap, Ambassador and the Thai Representative to the ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee, attended and opened the workshop. Other participants from ASEAN were H.E. Mr. Adnan Ja’afar, Deputy Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam as the Chairperson of ACCC, Permanent Representatives as ACCC members from Indonesia, Philippines, and Viet Nam, other officials from ASEAN Member States and the ASEAN Secretariat. Representatives of many other Dialogue Partners and international institutions also attended the workshop. In the workshop with a title of “Enhancing Connectivity through Multi-layered Regional Frameworks: The Role of Dialogue Partners”, speakers from ASEAN as well as many Dialogue Partners and international institutions made their respective and specific presentation actively under some given themes of “Ongoing Efforts on Connectivity in Different Regional Frameworks”, “The Roles of Dialogue Partners in Promoting Connectivity” and “Future Directions”, including such topics as Public-Private Partnership and enhancement of Institutional Connectivity. In the session of “The Roles of Dialogue Partners”, Ambassador Mr. ISHIKANE made his active and informative presentation explaining such issues as progress of Japan’s continuous efforts to date toward the enhanced Connectivity, the modality of consultation with ASEAN, key sectors of cooperation with major outcomes and some idea considered for future directions through multi-layered regional frameworks. It is expected that communication, consideration and cooperation toward enhancing ASEAN Connectivity will be further deepened through this kind of workshops and meetings and Japan will continue working together to contribute to the enhancement of ASEAN Connectivity. |
