On June 7, the ASEAN Women’s Circle of Jakarta hosted the first-time-ever Noodle Festival, featuring 27 varieties of noodle dishes by 16 different countries, including Japan, China, Korea, Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. The Festival was set at the ASEAN Secretariat and attracted up to 500 visitors from different embassies, permanent mission offices, ASEAN Dialogue Partners and ASEAN Secretariat. Visitors paid Rp. 100,000.- for an entry ticket and an all-you-can-eat noodle eating session from 11 am until 3 pm.
Japan’s noodle stall was set up by the spouses of the staff of Mission of Japan to ASEAN, headed by Mrs. Kaoru Ishikane, wife of Japan’s Ambassador to ASEAN Mr. Kimihiro Ishikane, and with the help of Mr. Kentaro Matsuura, who is the chef for Ambassador Ishikane. They served the traditional udon with shrimp tempura, spring onion, and seaweed. The Japanese stall proved to be popular among the visitors that they almost ran out of udon before 12 pm in the afternoon.
According to Ms. Dewi Suryodipuro, Executive Committee of the ASEAN Women’s Circle, this event is a charity event which all proceeds would go to Indonesia’s less privileged schools.
