THE 6th MEETING OF THE ASEAN-JAPAN JOINT COOPERATION COMMITTEE (AJJCC) AND AJJCC WORKING GROUP (AJJCC-WG)

    On Thursday, 30 May, the 6th ASEAN-Japan Joint Cooperation Committee (AJJCC) was held at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. The Japanese delegation was headed by H.E. Mr. Kimihiro ISHIKANE, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN. For the ASEAN side, H.E. Mr. KAN Pharidh, Permanent Representative of Cambodia which is the Country Coordinator for Japan, together with other Permanent Representative of ASEAN Member States and delegates as well as officials of ASEAN Secretariat attended the meeting.


    The meeting heard the update of activities for ASEAN Community building since the last AJJCC meeting in November 2012, and also was informed of the series of activities taken by the Japanese new government which enhanced Japan’s diplomacy towards ASEAN, including the start of JENESYS2.0. In addition, as this year is the 40th Anniversary of Japan-ASEAN Friendship and Cooperation, the participants discussed the current status and future plans of commemorative events for the 40th Anniversary. Furthermore, meaningful exchange of views took place regarding the preparation for Japan - ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting at the end of this June and the Japan - ASEAN Commemorative Summit at the end of this year.


    Prior to the AJJCC, on 29 May, AJJCC Working Group was held and there was a lively discussion on such an issue as the status of project implementation under the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
