ASEAN – UN Workshop on Lessons Learned and Best Practises in Conflict Prevention and Preventive Diplomacy

    ASEAN and United Nations, in cooperation with the Governmentof Japan,will hold a workshop on Lessons Learned and Best Practices in Conflict Prevention and Preventive Diplomacy on April 5 – 6, 2013 at Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta.

    The workshop is an effort to bring together an outstanding group of ASEAN diplomats, key officials of the UN and distinguished members of the academics in order to discuss the implementation of partnership in peace and security within the Asia-Pacific region.

    The Opening Ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Indonesia will be attended by H.E. Mr. Le Luong Minh, Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Dr. Marty Natalegawa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and Mr. Tamrat Samuel, Assistant-Secretary-General of United Nations.

    Over the course of two days, experts and officials will provide in-depth presentations, case studies and breakout sessions in order to review the implementation of the ASEAN-UN comprehensive partnership in peace and security in terms of approaches and practices in conflict resolution. Furthermore, the workshop will provide the opportunity for the officials to discuss concrete ways on how ASEAN - UN projects can be more beneficial to all of its members in the future by identifying gaps and needs in conflict prevention.

    Japan’s Ambassador to ASEAN, H.E. Mr. Kimihiro Ishikane, will be the moderator for the Session III (14:00 – 15:30, April 5) entitled ‘Conflict Prevention and Preventive Diplomacy – Case Studies in the ASEAN Region’.

    There will be a press conference following the Opening Ceremony on April 5 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended by H.E. Mr. Minh, H.E. Dr. Marty Natalegawa, and Mr. Samuel.
