Commencement of JENESYS 2.0 for ASEAN29th March, 2013 About 80 university students from ASEAN will be the first participants of JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youth) 2.0 for ASEAN, and they will visit Japan from March 31st to April 7th. JENESYS 2.0 is a new youth exchange program which Prime Minister Abe announced during his visit to Indonesia last January. Approximately 30,000 youths from Asia/Oceanian region including ASEAN will have an opportunity to visit to Japan. For the ASEAN 10 countries, about 10,000 youths will be invited to Japan. The very first program for this time is designed for youths in ASEAN to learn about the involvement for and contribution to ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). They will participate in the visiting / experience programs that will provide opportunities to deliberate on various aspects, after having a firsthand experience with “the Cool Japan” that is highly acclaimed and attracting a large attention in many fields. The participants will be divided into three groups to visit Chubu area, Kansai area or Kyusyu area, and observe Japan’s cutting-edge high technologies and its support for local industries and creative industries, experience Japan’s traditional culture, and communicate with local people. This program is expected to develop exchange and mutual understanding in youths between Japan and ASEAN. |
