28th September, 2012

On September 26, junior diplomats from Cambodia, Laos PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam (CLMV countries) made a courtesy call on H.E.Kimihiro Ishikane, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN. These four diplomats have been posted to the ASEAN Secretariat since July under the “Attachment program at the ASEAN Secretariat for Junior Diplomats of Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Viet Nam”.

The young diplomats told the Ambassador why they were interested in participating in the program and expressed their impression of work at the ASEAN Secretariat. Ambassador Ishikane explained the position of the Government of Japan on such issues as ASEAN’s community building endeavor, relevance of ASEAN in the international community and support to the CLMV countries.

Since 2001, with the financial support of the Government of Japan, this program has been enabled diplomats of the CLMV countries to explore their experiences at the ASEAN Secretariat as well as to visit Japan as a part of Japan’s effort to support CLMV countries’ activities in ASEAN. This year Japan receives the 12th batch participants. Under this program, the diplomats engage in the work at the ASEAN Secretariat for one year and also visit Japan in order to exchange views with relevant ministries and agencies officials, site visits and experience of Japanese culture.
