ASEAN Traditional Culinary Festival11 June 2014
On 5 June, ASEAN Women’s Circle (AWC) hosted the ASEAN Traditional Culinary Festival at the ASEAN Secretariat. It was the second culinary festival hosted by AWC after the ASEAN Noodle Festival last year. This year’s event featured 25 dishes from 18 countries including 10 ASEAN Member States, Japan, China, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Canada, and the United States. The Festival attracted more than 500 visitors from different embassies, permanent missions, ASEAN Dialogue Partners, and the ASEAN Secretariat. By paying a Rp 150,000 entrance fee, visitors could enjoy all-you-can eat buffet between 11am and 2pm. Japan’s booth, with the help of Chef for Ambassador Aiboshi, Mr. Tsuyoshi Sakai, featured Japan’s most popular home cooking: chicken curry. The booth attracted many visitors who were eager to sample the Japanese curry which has different taste from ASEAN or Indian curries. According to the AWC President, Mme. Sabai Win, the Festival was a charity event and all proceeds would be donated to Indonesia’s street children.
