Workshop on Improvement of Rural Living Conditions though One Village One Product (OVOP) Movement

   “Workshop on Improvement of Rural Living Conditions Through One Village One Product” organized by the Ministry of Cooperative and SME of the Republic of Indonesia took place from 13 to 15 March 2014 in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Participants were, among others, Mr. Meliadi Sembiring, Deputy Minister for SME Research and Development, Mr. I Wayan Dipta, Deputy Minister for Production of the Ministry of Cooperative and SME of Indonesia, and representatives from ASEAN Member States who were in charge of one village one product (OVOP) movement in each country. Japan supported this workshop by funding from the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF), and representatives from the Mission of Japan to ASEAN, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the International OVOP Exchange Committee from Oita Prefecture in Japan participated in the workshop.


    In the workshop, representatives from ASEAN Member States actively shared information on their experiences of OVOP movement in respective country. In addition, participants from Japan explained their experiences on OVOP movement in Oita Prefecture and shared examples of cooperation introducing OVOP movement to other countries. Also, ASEAN participants discussed possible ASEAN common guidelines on OVOP movement which would be utilized as a useful reference for policy making in ASEAN Member States.


   It is hoped that economic and social conditions in rural area in ASEAN would be further developed by local movement which utilizes characteristics and resources in each area, such as OVOP movement.
