New Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN Presented the Letter of Credentials to the Secretary-General of ASEAN

    On 10 March, H.E. Mr. Koichi Aiboshi presented the letter of credentials to Secretary-General of ASEAN, H.E. Le Luong Minh. Hence, Ambassador AIBOSHI has officially assumed the post of the Ambassador of Japan to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).


    After the presentation of the letter of credentials, Secretary-General Minh and Ambassador Aiboshi had a talk for about 30 minutes. The Ambassador stated that Japan, which has been consistently following the path of a democratic and peaceful country, would like to proactively support ASEAN’s endeavor to establish ASEAN Community through further collaboration, based on the strong mutual trust nurtured through long-term friendship. Meanwhile, Secretary-General Minh stated that steady implementation of Vision Statement and its Implementation Plan agreed at the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit Meeting last December has high importance for ASEAN, and it is indispensable that Japan support ASEAN for this area.


    Secretary-General Minh and Ambassador Aiboshi reaffirmed long-term friendship between ASEAN and Japan and exchanged their views on various issue including further ASEAN-Japan cooperation.


    Following the meeting with the Secretary-General, Ambassador Aiboshi made a press statement, in which he stated that, based on the successful outcomes of the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit Meeting, he will make his utmost efforts to further strengthen the cooperative relations between ASEAN and Japan.


    Ambassador Aiboshi then met with ASEAN Deputy Secretaries-Generals H.E. Nyan Lynn, H.E. Dr. Lim Hong Hin and H.E. Dr. AKP Mochtan for further discussion on ASEAN-Japan cooperation.
