The ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee (ACCC) Consultation on ASEAN Connectivity with Dialogue Partners and the 7th ASEAN Connectivity Symposium (19 and 20 October 2016)2 November 2016
The ASEAN Connectivity Coordinating Committee (ACCC) Consultation on ASEAN Connectivity with Dialogue Partners and the 7th ASEAN Connectivity Symposium were held in in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 19 and 20 October 2016, respectively. H.E. Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, attended both meetings. ASEAN adopted the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity (MPAC) 2025 at the 28th ASEAN Summit in September 2016. The MPAC 2025 is a key document to outline how to enhance regional connectivity for the next 10 years, thereby advancing ASEAN’s community building. At the consultation, ASEAN Member States and Dialogue Partners discussed concrete ideas and possible cooperation to support the implementation of the MPAC 2025. Ambassador Sunaga briefed the support which Japan has provided for ASEAN Connectivity and explained Japan’s current and future cooperation on the five strategic areas of MPAC 2025, namely, sustainable infrastructure, digital innovation, seamless logistics, regulatory excellence, and people mobility. (Click here for Ambassador Sunaga’s presentation document) The views expressed at the meetings included that it is important to socialize the MPAC 2025, to closely coordinate with various stakeholders including Dialogue Partners, and to mobilise adequate resources.
