Workshop on ASEAN Guiding Principles for Quality Assurance of Competency Certification Systems2 September 2016
Workshop on ASEAN Guiding Principles for Quality Assurance of Competency Certification System was held in Jakarta on 22-24 August 2016. It was convened by Indonesian Professional Certification Authority (BNSP) and sponsored by Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF). Over 50 people attended the workshop, including Mr. Sumarna F. Abdurahman, Chairman of BNSP, Mr. Kazuo Sunaga, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, representatives of ASEAN member states and relevant institutions. The workshop witnessed lively discussions conveying a wide range of issues. The workshop aimed to deepen the understanding of the participants on the ASEAN Guiding Principles for Quality Assurance of Competency Certification Systems which was adopted at the ASEAN Labour Ministers’ Meeting in May 2016. It also aimed to explore ways in which the Principles will be utilised by the government and the private sector. ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025, adopted in November 2015, aims to facilitate the movement of skilled labour. It is hoped that ASEAN member states will use the Principles when referring skill levels of workers of each member states, thereby facilitating the movement of labour in the region.
