The 2nd ASEAN-Japan/the 7th ASEAN Plus Three Culture and Arts Ministers’ Meetings

The 2nd ASEAN-Japan/the 7th ASEAN Plus Three (Japan-China-Republic of Korea) Culture and Arts Ministers’ Meetings was held in Brunei Darussalam from 24 to 25 August 2016. State Minister Hiroyuki Yoshiie, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, attended the meetings.


At the ASEAN-Japan Culture and Arts Ministers Meeting, Ministers exchanged views on the Plan of Action on ASEAN-Japan Cooperation in Culture 2015-2018. The ASEAN Ministers appreciated Japan’s invitation to ‘World Forum on Sport and Culture’ to be held in Japan in October 2016, they also welcomed the new project titled “ASEAN Cultural Heritage Digital Archive” to be funded through Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund with the aim to support ASEAN Member States’ efforts in sharing their digital archives and promoting public access to digital archives of AMS through digitisation of cultural heritage collections.


At the ASEAN Plus Three Culture and Arts Ministers Meeting, Ministers exchanged views on the Work Plan for enhancing ASEAN Plus Three Cooperation in Culture 2013-2016 and how to further promote and strengthen ASEAN Plus Three cooperation in culture including the next phase of the Work Plan.


At the meetings, participants actively exchanged views on the present and future directions of ASEAN-Japan/ASEAN Plus Three cooperation on culture, and the Joint Statements were adopted.


The 3rd ASEAN-Japan/the 8th ASEAN Plus Three Culture and Arts Ministers’ Meetings will be hosted by Indonesia in 2018.
