This is a kick-off symposium of JASTIP Joint Laboratory set up at LIPI, which aims to disseminate information on the functions and activities of JASTIP and the Joint Laboratory to various stakeholders and to encourage multilateral collaboration among the ASEAN countries and Japan.

The ASEAN-Japan Summit, held in November 2015, issued the JASTIP as an endeavor to strengthen the ASEAN Community, in particular, ASEAN Economic Community, and to promote collaborative research and innovation between Japan and ASEAN.

Ms. Yukiko Okano expressed her high hope for JASTIP to become a platform for innovation and a nexus of science and technology collaboration between Japan and ASEAN through collaborative research in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. Possible collaborative researches under JASTIP are going to be implemented in such areas as bio-resources and biodiversity, disaster prevention, and environment and energy.
