Participation in the public seminar related to ASEAN hosted by Habibie Center2 October 2015 On 30 September, the Habibie Center, one of the leading think tank in Indonesia, held a public seminar entitled “Japan’s Cooperation towards the ASEAN Economic Community”. The Habibie Center holds a monthly public seminar on ASEAN issues featuring speakers from government officials, ambassadors, academics, senior journalists, business leaders and prominent experts/activists. This seminar was held as in the series. On the invitation from the Habibie Center, H.E. Mr. Koichi Aiboshi, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, participated in the seminar as one of the speakers. Other speakers were Prof. Dr. Tirta Mursitama, Head of international relations department, Bina Nusantra university and Mr. Izuru Kobayashi, Chief Operating Officer of Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA). Ambassador Aiboshi outlined the history and current status of Japan-ASEAN relations, the structure and the functions of Mission of Japan to ASEAN, and the progress of and perspectives on AEC. He then spoke about Japan’s cooperation towards the establishment of the AEC such as enhancing ASEAN connectivity, narrowing the development gap in ASEAN, current status of AJCEP and RCEP, cooperation through Japan ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) as well as Japanese Business community in ASEAN. (See material here .) The presentation was followed by a lively Q&A session between the speakers and the attendees from diplomatic corps, international organizations and NGOs.
