Public lecture on Japan-ASEAN cooperation at the University of Indonesia

    On 4 March, the Mission of Japan to ASEAN in cooperation with the ASEAN Study Centre of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Indonesia held a public lecture entitled “Japan and Post-2015 ASEAN: Stronger Collaboration for a Better World” at the University of Indonesia. The event was attended by approximately 100 students and faculty members, including the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences and the Head of the International Relations Department.


    The lecture was given by Ms Yukiko Okano, Minister-Counsellor and Deputy Chief of the Mission of Japan to ASEAN, with comments from Dr Asra Virgianita, a faculty member of the International Relations Department. The lecture was moderated by Dr Edy Prasetyono, Head of the Post-graduate Programme of the International Relations Department.


    In her lecture, Minister-Counsellor Okano explained briefly about the history of Japan-ASEAN cooperation and introduced ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and regional economic frameworks. The economic relation between Japan and ASEAN was also discussed. The lecture was followed by lively Q&A sessions between the speakers and the attendees.


    The Mission of Japan to ASEAN intends to continue outreach activities to raise awareness of people in ASEAN about the Japan-ASEAN relations.
