ASEAN-Japan Fine Arts Colleges Network Meeting16 February 2015
ASEAN-Japan Fine Arts Colleges Network Meeting was held from 9 to 11 February 2015 at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta, Indonesia with the cooperation of Japan Foundation, the ASEAN Secretariat and the Mission of Japan to ASEAN. The meeting was held as one of the “WA projects” with the aim of building a platform to expand existing bilateral exchanges between Japan and ASEAN countries to a regional endeavour. From Japan, Mr Mitamura Arisumi, Director of International Exchange Office, Tokyo University of the Arts, attended the meeting with his colleagues and students. Japan Foundation as well as the Mission of Japan to ASEAN were also present. From the ASEAN, Dr Agus Burhan, Rector of ISI Yogyakarta, representatives from arts colleges of ASEAN Member States as well as the ASEAN Secretariat took part. On the first day, ASEAN Secretariat and Japan Foundation presented their activities on culture and art in the ASEAN region. Representatives from arts colleges of ASEAN Member States then presented their activities on international collaboration and possible ideas for future collaborative projects making use of the network. After participants attended a batik (Indonesian traditional dyed textile) workshop, instructors and students discussed expectations for the network in separate groups. On the second day, based on the outcome of the group discussion, participants actively exchanged views on the future directions of the network. Based on the discussion during the two days, ISI Yogyakarta will, together with Japan Foundation and the Mission of Japan to ASEAN, explore future directions of the network and possible projects thereunder.
