Japanese Food Event (soba-making)

 On 22 December, the Mission of Japan to ASEAN organised the 4th lecture and demonstration of Japanese cuisine at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, focusing on 'Teuchi Soba', handmade soba noodle, as a pre-event for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in 2023.  

 Eight soba masters accredited by the All Soba Association (ZenmenKyo) visited the Secretariat, and gave a demonstration of making soba, served with tempura prepared by Mr. MORITA Atsushi, the chef of Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN.  

 In his opening remarks, Ambassador Kiya said, " I hope that all of you … will enjoy great Japanese food, WASHOKU, today, to be ready to come over to Japan for the commemorative year of 2023 and beyond!" In cooperation with Kochi Prefecture's Singapore office, Kombu cha(seaweed tea), and yuzu juice from the prefecture were served at the venue, which was well received.  

 About 160 including a number of high-level participants attended the event from ASEAN Member States such as H.E. Ms. Urawadee Sriphiromya, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Thailand to ASEAN, as coordinating country for Japan to ASEAN; H.E. Mr. Yeap Samnang, Permanent Representative of the the Kingdom of Cambodia to ASEAN; H.E. Mr. Bovonethat Douangchak, the Permanent Representative of Lao People’s Democratic Republic to ASEAN; H.E. Ms. Kok Li Peng, the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Singapore to ASEAN; H.E. Mr.Kwon Hee-seog, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN. Moreover, H.E. Mr. Tran Duc Binh, Deputy Secretary-General for Community and Secretariat;H.E. Mr. Ekkaphab Phanthavong, Deputy Secretary-General for Socio-Cultural Community from the ASEAN Secretariat and Ms. Melody Nurramdhani Laksani, ASEAN-Japan Goodwill Ambassador for Food and Agriculture, attended the event.
