On 3 February, Ambassador Yonetani invited participants of the Attachment Programme, which provides training opportunities for young government officials from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV countries) and Timor Leste, as well as its supporters to his residence for a meeting.

Ambassador Yonetani expressed his pleasure that participants to the program have been actively contributing to their home countries, their respective overseas missions, and the ASEAN Secretariat. Representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat and participants of the programme expressed their gratitude for Japan's long-standing support for the program. The meeting was attended by alumni of the programme who are now working at the ASEAN Secretariat and the ASEAN missions of CLMV countries. The participants deepened their friendship during the meeting.

(*) The Attachment Programme dispatches young government officials from CLMV countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Viet Nam) to the ASEAN Secretariat for one year, with a view to enhancing administrative capacities of the participants, as well as narrowing the gap between CLMV countries and the other six ASEAN countries.  The programme has fostered a number of promising officials in CLMV countries for the past years.  From the current batch, the programme receives the participants from Timor Leste. The Government of Japan supports the programme through Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).
