Japanese Food Event 2025 “Matcha attracts people in ASEAN”

On 9th December 2025, the Mission of Japan to ASEAN hosted the 7th Japanese Food Lecture and Demonstration Event at the ASEAN Secretariat / HQ in Jakarta.
Nowadays, Matcha, powdered shade-grown green tea, developed in Japan, attracts people in Jakarta and in many other cities in the world. Matcha can be enjoyied not only in traditional ways but also in various modern innovative ways, such as matcha lattes, matcha cakes, or matcha chocolate. This boom has came following the popularity of Japanese cuisine.
At this event, Authentic tea ceremony was held by the Chado Urasenke Tankokai Inodonesia Association. Participants also experienced how to make matcha powder, which was presented by Ms Moeno Kuniyoshi, Matcha Influencer, and meking authentic Japanese sweets Wagashi, which provided by Snow Lin.
In addition, Chef Atsushi Morita at the Ambassador’s residence of Japan’s Mission to ASEAN made Matcha Daifuku and served it to the participants. They enjoyed the precious experience of seeing and tasting it as well as Matcha sweets from Dore Letao and Chateraise, and Japanese tea bottle from ITOEN.
The event was attended by H.E. HENG Sarith Ambassador of Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of Cambodia to ASEAN, H.E. Sitsangkhom SISAKETH Ambassador of Permanent Mission of Lao PDR to ASEAN, H.E. Sarah Al Bakri Devadason Ambassador of Permanent Mission of Malaysia to ASEAN, H.E. Evangeline T. Ong Jimenez-Ducrocq Ambassador of Permanent Mission of the Republic of the Philippines to ASEAN, H.E. Gerard Ho Wei Hong, Ambassador of Permanent Mission of the Republic of Singapore to ASEAN, H.E. Natercia Coelho da Silva Ambassador Permanent Mission of Timor Leste to ASEAN, and many other high-level participants, including H.E. Kim Kao Hourn, Secretary General of the ASEAN Secretariat. Ms. Melody, ASEAN-Japan Goodwill Ambassador for Food and Agriculture, also participated in the event.
