The 5th ASEAN-Japan Sports Ministers' Meeting was held in Hanoi, Vietnam, on October 17, 2025. From Japan, Mr. KAWAI Junichi, Commissioner of the Japan Sports Agency, attended as Co-chair with Vietnam.
 
At this meeting, based on the "Chiang Mai Declaration" adopted at the previous meeting, reports were made on the initiatives in the five priority areas of cooperation that Japan has led and implemented. A joint statement was also adopted, aiming to deepen cooperation in sports between Japan and ASEAN member states and to contribute to the sustainable development of the ASEAN region.
 
Additionally, Japan and Vietnam co-hosted "ASEAN-Japan Sports Exchange 2025" as a side event of the meeting. Nine companies from Japan exhibited at booths, and Commissioner Kawai sequentially introduced the initiatives of each company to the ministers and other representatives from various countries.
