ASEAN-Japan Medical Devices Regulatory Symposium

On 14 May, Ambassador KIYA Masahiko attended the ASEAN-Japan Medical Devices Regulatory Symposium, which is supported through Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) and co-hosted by the Ministry of Health of Indonesia, the University of Indonesia, and Japan’s Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA).
 
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Kiya highlighted the importance of the symposium, the continued support provided through JAIF, and the efforts of PMDA in playing a central role. He also expressed his hope that the symposium for further strengthening of ASEAN-Japan relations.
 
Ambassador Kiya also visited various booths set up by Indonesian companies and participated in the press conference of the symposium with Prof. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, Vice Minister of Health.
 
The symposium was conducted in a hybrid format and was attended by approximately 1,000 participants.
 
In the Implementation Plan of the Joint Vision Statement adopted at the Commemorative Summit for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation in 2023, ASEAN and Japan expressed their commitment to promoting cooperation on the expansion of access to quality health services, pharmaceuticals and medical devices for non-communicable diseases, including training in regulating pharmaceuticals and medical devices through platforms such as the PMDA-ATC (Asia Training Center for Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Regulatory Affairs). This symposium, along with the seminar, is what embodies our commitments.
