Ambassador Kiya, together with Ambassadors of the Republic of Korea and the United States to ASEAN, visited Timor-Leste on 19-21 June 2024. Ambassadors paid courtesy calls on H.E. Dr. José Ramos-Horta, President of Timor-Leste, H.E. Mr. Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Prime Minister, and H.E. Mrs. Milena Marina da Costa Rangel, Vice Minister for ASEAN Affairs, and had exchanges of view with Ms. Olufunmilayo (Funmi) Abosede Balogun-Alexander, UN Resident Coordinator, among others.
This visit to Timor-Leste by the three Ambassadors was a valuable opportunity to showcase their commitment to supporting Timor-Leste to full membership in ASEAN, and as part of concrete efforts by the three countries based on the Camp David Principles adopted at the Tripartite Summit in August last year.
Taking the opportunity of this visit, three Ambassadors had a seminar at National University of Timor-Leste, as well as a meeting with officials from the relevant Timor-Leste ministries on issues related to the accession to ASEAN and cooperation with partners.
Japan will continue to cooperate with Timor-Leste, including the support toward its full accession to ASEAN.
