Japanese Food Lecture and Demonstration Event

On November 21, the Mission of Japan to ASEAN hosted the 5th Japanese Food Lecture and Demonstration Event at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.
The event was held in conjunction with a lunch at the Symposium of “Promoting Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture and Food System through Innovation: ASEAN’s Initiatives and Japan’s Contribution” which co-organized by the ASEAN Secretariat and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) and supported by ERIA (click here for an overview of the symposium).
At this event, Chef Shimada of Okuzono, a Japanese restaurant in Jakarta, and others gave a demonstration of sushi rolls and a yellowtail filleting show, followed by sashimi and shabu-shabu tasting.
In addition, Scallops from Hokkaido, Yuzu juice and Oden from Kochi Prefecture were also served. In commemoration for the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan friendship and cooperation, Chef Atsushi Morita of the official residence Mission of Japan to ASEAN created decorated sushi with the shape of the ASEAN Secretariat logo, and participants enjoyed precious experience of seeing and tasting Japanese food and culture.
In addition to the symposium attendees, the event was attended by Chargé d’ Affaires a.i. of Thailand Mission to ASEAN Mr. Piyapong Nuntana as representatives of ASEAN's coordinating countries with Japan, H.E. Zaini, Permanent Representative of Brunei to ASEAN, H.E. Aman, Permanent Representative of Indonesia to ASEAN and H.E. Wong, Permanent Representative of Malaysia to ASEAN, H.E. Jang-keun, Mission Ambassador of South Korea to ASEAN, H.E. Calman, Mission Ambassador of New Zealand to ASEAN, H.E. Abraham, Ambassador Mission of the United States of America to ASEAN, H.E. SEAM, Ambassador of the European Union to ASEAN and many other high-level participants, including H.E. Singh, Deputy-Secretary General (Economic Community) and H.E. Ekkaphab, Deputy-Secretary General (Socio-Cultural Community) of the ASEAN Secretariat, as well as Ms. Melody, ASEAN-Japan Friendship Ambassador for Food and Agriculture, also participated in the event.
