Visit of the Delegation of House of Councillors to the 44th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly

The 44th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, and delegations from ASEAN Member States as well as observer countries and organisations, including Japan, were invited.
Japan was represented by a delegation consisting of members of the House of Councillors, Mr. MORIYA Hiroshi (head of delegation) and Mr. ISHIBASHI Michihiro. During the program on 7 and 8 August, Mr. MORIYA delivered a speech at the plenary session of the AIPA General Assembly, and the delegation held a dialogue with AIPA member states under the theme “Parliamentary Cooperation: Shared Commitments for Peace, Stability, and Prosperity”. The delegation discussed various topics including the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation.
The delegation also took this opportunity to have meetings with delegations from Indonesia as the chair of AIPA this year, Timor-Leste, Canada, Ukraine, the United States, and the European Parliament. In addition to these bilateral meetings, the delegation met with H.E. Mr. Rachmat Gobel, Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as Dr. Dante Saksono Harbuwono, Vice Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.
The delegation also had an opportunity to talk with Japanese business people in Indonesia, and to visit Yadika Vocational High School 2 (SMK Yadika 2), which the Japan Foundation supports for Japanese language education. The delegation visited the administration building and maintenance area of the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) in Jakarta as well, which was built by Japanese Official Development Assistance (ODA).
The delegation completed their stay in Jakarta on 9 August.
