The 17th Meeting of the ASEAN-Japan Joint Cooperation Committee (AJJCC)

On 6 June, the 17th ASEAN-Japan Joint Cooperation Committee (AJJCC) was held at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta. H.E. Mr. KIYA Masahiko, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, and H.E. Ms. SRIPHROMNYA Urawadee, Permanent Representative of Thailand as Country Coordinator for Japan, co-chaired the meeting, having attendance from Permanent Representatives of ASEAN Member States and delegates, as well as H.E. Robert Matheus Michael Tene, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Political Security Community from the ASEAN Secretariat. Mr. YAZAWA Hideki, Principal Deputy Director of the Regional Policy Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also attended the meeting.
In the meeting, the participants engaged in exchanges of views on ASEAN-Japan cooperation including the progress of activities based on the Revised Implementation Plan of the Vision Statement on ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, as well as discussions on regional and international issues. Ambassador Kiya mentioned the establishment of the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) 3.0 with a contribution of US$100 million, with the strong commitment to support various initiatives especially the activities relating to the implementation of the key areas under the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP).
In addition, as this year marks the 50th Year of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation, the participants discussed the current status and future plans of commemorative events for the 50th Year. Furthermore, meaningful exchanges of views took place regarding the preparation for ASEAN-Japan Foreign Ministers' Meeting in July and the ASEAN-Japan Summit in September, as well as the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit in December this year in Japan.
Prior to the AJJCC, on the morning of the same day, the Ceremony of Commemorative Panels made by Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF) was held at the ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC), and ninth graders from the Jakarta Japanese School visiting ASEC also joined the ceremony.
