On 10 August 2022, the 14th Dialogue between Secretary General of ASEAN and the Federation of Japanese Chambers of Commerce and Industry in ASEAN (FJCCIA) was held in a hybrid format. The meeting was attended by Mr. SHIMADA Shinichiro, chairman of the FJCCIA; H.E. Ambassador CHIBA Akira from the Mission of Japan to ASEAN; and the Secretary General of ASEAN, H.E. Dato Lim Jock Hoi.

  1. The FJCCIA made proposals on four areas, namely maximising the potential of the intra-ASEAN market and broader economic integration, inclusive digital transformation, a more sustainable and resilient future, and human capital development as well as progresses made since the last year’s dialogue.

  2. Ambassador Chiba stated that the importance of ASEAN had been growing with a view to achieving the peace, stability and prosperity, as the region is located in the very heart of the Indo-Pacific region where geopolitical risk increased. He also touched upon the importance of “ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP)” adopted in June 2019, while reiterating the essential role played by the business community in realising AOIP.

  3. Secretary General Lim pointed out that the dialogue was an important platform that would contribute to the realisation of various initiatives related to ASEAN economic integration, as well as expressed his commitment to following up the discussions in this dialogue. In addition, he expressed his hope that the public and private sectors in ASEAN and Japan would work together to promote more practical and pragmatic activities in preparation for the 50th Years of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation next year.
