Ambassador Chiba’s participation to the JASTIP Symposium

On January 18, H.E. CHIBA Akira, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, attended the Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Platform (JASTIP) (*) Symposium held in Hanoi, Vietnam. Attendees to the symposium included H.E. Dr. Bui The Duy, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, H.E. Mr. Houmphanh Intharath, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of LAO PDR, and H.E. Dr. Rowena Cristina L. Guevara, Vice Minister of the Department of Science and Technology of the Philippines.
 
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Chiba, referring to his experience working at the Science Council of Japan, stated that JASTIP is expected to provide solutions to globally and locally shared tasks through the practical application of research outcomes and human resource development and spread the outcomes among ASEAN countries, and that this would lead to the development and prosperity of ASEAN. He also expressed his respect to Kyoto University as the implementing agency and to all participant who had dedicated their efforts to the activities of JASTIP.
 
(*) JASTIP is a project implemented by Kyoto University with the support by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). With a core base in Thailand, research bases in the fields of "Energy & Environment", "Bioresources & Biodiversity" and "Disaster Prevention" are located in Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia, respectively. Researchers from ASEAN countries and Japan are coordinately conducting research in these bases.
