Japan-ASEAN Seminar on Cultural Heritage Digital Archive in celebration of the 45th Year of Japan-ASEAN Friendship and Cooperation

On 22 February 2018, Japan-ASEAN Seminar on Cultural Heritage Digital Archive, which commemorated the 45th anniversary of Japan-ASEAN Friendship and Cooperation, was held under the auspices of the Mission of Japan to ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta.
H.E. Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga and H.E. Dr. AKP Mochtan, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community and Cooperate Affaires made opening remarks and introduced Japan’s support for ASEAN in this area. Dr. Ari Ide, Professor, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University, made a speech, on the latest imaging technologies for historical and cultural assets and demonstrated concrete examples of digitalizing historical and cultural assets by using cutting-edge digital technologies. Mr. Minoru Endo, Senior manager, NTT DATA Corporation also presented on the ASEAN Cultural Heritage Digital Archive project, supported by Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF), which started this year.
Approximately 50 guests including Permanent Representative of the Philippines to ASEAN, Ambassador of ROK to ASEAN and cultural related researchers attended the seminar. It served as a good opportunity to learn about a Japan’s cutting-edge digital technology for digitalizing cultural assets.
