The Signing Ceremony of Cooperative Framework of AUN/SEED-Net

On 1 December 2017, the Signing Ceremony of Cooperative Framework of AUN/SEED-Net was held in Bangkok, Thailand.

H.E. Mr. Kazuo Sunaga, Ambassador of Japan to ASEAN, Ms. Noriko Suzuki, Vice President, Japan International Cooperation Agency, Dr. Sophon Napathorn, M.D., Vice Minister for Education, Ministry of Education, the Kingdom of Thailand, Datuk Datuk Dr. Amin Senin, Director General of Education, Ministry of Education of Malaysia, the Chair of the 12th ASEAN SOM-ED as well as representatives of 26 ASEAN Member Institutions attended the Ceremony.

AUN/SEED-Net was established in 2001 as one of JICA projects. It is aimed at creating a human resource development platform in engineering and promoting the capacity development of Member Institutions in ASEAN to contribute to sustainable development in the region.

This project has made remarkable achievements, including the following;
  1. About 1,400 scholarships were given to academic staff and students at Member Institutions for their postgraduate studies at leading universities in ASEAN or Japan.
  2. More than 200 programs were conducted in the Collaborative Research Program.

AUN/SEED-Net will make a new start at the fourth phase (2018-2023) next year.  In the new phase, this project will seek to contribute to further industrial development in the region, to address global issues in Asia and to strengthen the capacities of member institutions and academic network.

AUN/SEED-Net is expected to contribute to the strengthening of people-to-people connectivity in ASEAN as one of the leading projects for establishing ASEAN Community and further deepening its integration.
