East Asia Summit Ambassadors' Meeting in Jakarta (EAMJ) Mangrove Tree Planting Day

On 20 November 2017, East Asia Summit Ambassadors' Meeting in Jakarta (EAMJ) Mangrove Tree Planting Day was held in Angke Kapuk Mangrove Ecotourism Park, North Jakarta, Indonesia.
 
Dr. Hilman Nugroho, Directorate General of Watershed and Forest, Ministry of the Environment and Forestry in Indonesia, H.E. Vongthep Arthakaivalvatee, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Socio-Cultural Community, ASEAN Secretariat, and representatives and ambassadors from member countries of East Asia Summit including H.E. Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga of Japan attended this event. Participants planted young trees of mangroves at the site of 1.2 meters depth of water.
 
This event was planned in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN. It was mentioned in the Chairman’s Statement of East Asia Summit held on 14 November 2017 in Manila.
 
It served as a good opportunity to show commitment of EAS member states to the global environmental agenda, through protection, conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity and natural resources in line with the ASEAN Vision 2025 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
