H.E. Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga made a speech at the seminar on “Promoting and Strengthening Friendship Cooperation and Networking on Youth Generation in ASEAN”

Ambassador Kazuo Sunaga made a speech and joined a Q&A session at the seminar on “Promoting and Strengthening Friendship Cooperation and Networking on Youth Generation in ASEAN” organized by Al Azhar Indonesia University, Jakarta on 7 March 2017. More than 200 students joined the seminar, together with the H.E. Rahmat Pramono, Permanent Representative of Indonesia to ASEAN and H.E. Suh Jeong-in, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN.
Ambassador Sunaga outlined ASEAN’s progress and economic expansion and explained how ASEAN is important as an investment destination for Japan, referring to foreign direct investment from Japan to ASEAN and Japanese companies’ interests toward ASEAN. Additionally, Ambassador Sunaga introduced “JENESYS”, a people-to-people exchange program between Japan and ASEAN for youths, “AUN/SEED-Net”, which promotes human resource development in engineering for sustainable socio-economic development of the ASEAN region, and “NIHONGO Partners” program, which supports educational activities of local Japanese-Language teachers and spreading the charms of the Japanese language and culture. All these programs are in line with the priority theme of ASEAN in 2017, “A People-Oriented and People-Centered ASEAN”.
Participants gained a better understanding about Japan-ASEAN cooperation through the seminar.
